When Telehealth Is the Best Choice

Telehealth Visit

The COVID-19 pandemic brought many changes to the way we live and work — including how we access medical care. Telehealth became essential during lockdowns, and while in-person visits have resumed, virtual visits are here to stay.

At Spinal Diagnostics, we offer telehealth appointments for specific scenarios where an in-person visit isn’t necessary. But how do you know when telehealth is the right choice?

What is telehealth?

Telehealth uses secure video conferencing technology to connect you with a provider from the comfort of your home. You can use a computer, tablet, or smartphone for your appointment — no travel or waiting room required.

We use telehealth appointments for consultations, medication management, post-treatment follow-ups, and some types of chronic condition monitoring.

When is telehealth a good fit?

Here are a few scenarios where a telehealth appointment can be ideal:

  • You have limited mobility or transportation
  • You’re following up after a procedure or injection
  • You need to review test results or imaging
  • You want to discuss medication adjustments
  • You’re managing a chronic pain condition

Telehealth may also be helpful for initial evaluations, where we can gather your history and symptoms before determining next steps — especially if you’re unsure whether an in-person physical exam is needed.

What can’t be done over telehealth?

While telehealth is convenient, it’s not a replacement for every type of visit. Some conditions require a physical examination, in-office testing, or procedures that can only be done face-to-face. We’ll let you know when an in-person visit is best.

If you’re experiencing new or worsening symptoms, or if your condition requires hands-on care, we may recommend coming into our Tualatin or Newberg office instead.

Need help deciding?

Not sure if your appointment qualifies for telehealth? Our friendly front desk team can help you schedule the right type of visit. Just call us and let us know what you need to discuss — we’ll guide you through the options.
